Employers' needs

The UK government's skills agenda is to improve skills, thereby increasing employee productivity and output, and improving social equality and equity. To achieve these objectives, a range of reforms are ensuring that the whole skills system is driven by employers' and learners' needs.

A key change within the UKVQRP is to develop vocational qualifications which will meet employers needs'. This will be achieved by:

  • Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) researching employers needs' and capturing them in Sector Qualification Strategies (SQS)
  • SSCs working with awarding organisations to develop vocational qualifications based on these strategies
  • SSCs providing support to vocational qualifications prior to accreditation, ensuring that they meet emoployers needs'
  • Accrediting employers' in-house training through the training recognition scheme, which enables employers own high quality to be accredited as part of the national system

Further information on the employer and provider training recognition can be found on QCA's webpage at http://www.qca.org.uk/qca_14937.aspx
